Do It Yourself Lawn Care

You do not need to have lots of time on your hands to engage in do it yourself lawn care. Whether you live in the suburbs, in the middle of the city or in a rural area, you want to keep your lawn looking its very best at all time. Of course, you can hire a lawn service, but this takes all the enjoyment out of looking at the lawn & knowing it is that way because of your work. Lawn care & landscaping add to the appeal & the value of your home if you ever decide to sell.

The one thing you have to consider is mowing the lawn on a regular basis. Right. What most people do not realize is that there is a right & a wrong way to mow a lawn. You need to lower the blades of the mower so that you get a clean cut, but you do not want to have the blades too low. If you do, the grass will burn up in times when the weather is hot & there is not very much rain. On average the grass should remain three inches high. The blades should also be sharpened on a regular basis & you should never let the grass grow too tall before you decide to cut it… Cutting tall grass can damage the new growth & leave clumps in the middle of the lawn.

How often you water the lawn depends on the weather in your area, the type of soil you have & the type of grass. If you walk on the lawn & you can see your footprints after a few minutes, then the lawn needs to be watered. Even though you should not actually be stingy with the water, you should not water the grass too much either. If you give the lawn too much water, it can cause the grass to rot.

Weeds are also a problem in any lawn. If you notice patches of brown on the lawn, this is a sign that you really need to apply fertilizer & give the grass some water. There are in addition insects that can cause a lot of bad  damage to a lawn, but there’re many products available to help you get rid of them. Contact your local garden center to get advice on how to deal with this problem. These experts can usually tell what kind of infestation you have just by listening to what you have to say. Bringing a picture with you will not hurt either.
